Move-in mishap leads to morning apartment fire

A move-in mishap led to a quick scare this morning for Horizon at the Wells apartments.

Maricopa firefighters put out a small kitchen fire at about 8:30 a.m. in a unit at the apartment complex near Shea Way and Porter Road.

The fire allegedly started as new residents were moving into the unit and was limited to the unit’s kitchen area.

“[They] had placed belongings on the stove surface. It’s likely the stove knob was accidentally hit, leading to the belongings igniting,” said a spokesperson for the fire department.
