HEIDELBERG, Miss. (WDAM) - New details have been released by the Mississippi Highway Patrol about the wrecked monkey transport from Tuesday.

MHP confirmed with WDAM that the driver of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado hauling the monkeys at the time of the crash was a 54-year-old man from Cascade, Maryland. According to MHP, the man ran off the highway into the median.

A 34-year-old resident of Thurmond, Maryland, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Neither was injured.

Five monkeys were killed after the crash, and three escaped.

Thirteen monkeys remained and were returned to their owner to be taken to their destination.
