SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The Sevier County Animal Shelter is temporarily closed after two puppies it received earlier in the week tested positive for parvovirus.

The shelter shared on Saturday that two puppies from a litter of 8-month-old puppies it took in on Monday began showing symptoms after they were at the shelter and tested positive for the virus. Sevier County Animal Shelter explained that its staff are always vigilant of symptoms of illness, especially when it comes to young dogs, but parvovirus can incubate in an animal for up to 10 days before they show any signs of illness.

The two puppies are doing ok and will be sent to a foster home to quarantine, the shelter said, however, there is a potential that the puppies exposed other dogs to the virus before they tested positi
