MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich. — A 16-year-old girl is recovering after being critically injured in what authorities are calling an accidental shooting Saturday night in Mecosta County.
According to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 10 p.m. Saturday to a residence near the intersection of Harding Road and 55th Avenue in Sheridan Township. When they arrived, they found the teenage girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.
Investigators say the shot was fired by a 21-year-old man from Barryton. Deputies immediately began CPR and other life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene.
The girl was first transported to Big Rapids Hospital for stabilization, then transferred to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for further treatment.
