WAYLAND, Mich. — A tragic wrong-way crash on US-131 in Allegan County claimed the lives of three people and left three others with life-threatening injuries late Saturday night.

According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and officers from the Gun Lake Tribal Police Department were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. Saturday after reports of a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US-131 near 129th Avenue in Wayland Township.

A Gun Lake Tribal Police officer, driving in the southbound lanes, located the wrong-way vehicle near mile marker 59 and attempted to intercept it. Before the officer could intervene, the vehicle collided head-on with a northbound car near mile marker 57 in Martin Township.
