After a week off, Saturday Night Live was back this weekend with host Miles Teller and musical guest Brandi Carlisle. This was the second time hosting the sketch comedy show for the Top Gun: Maverick star, and he got involved right from the jump with the cold open. The opening tackled the ongoing New York City mayoral race with a debate between the three primary candidates.
The debate featured Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani (Ramy Youssef), the independent Andrew Cuomo (Miles Teller) and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, played by surprise guest Shane Gillis. Kenan Thompson hosted the debate, asking the candidates questions such as their favorite bagel order, why they wanted to be mayor and more.
Near the end of the sketch, James Austin Johnson appeared as President Donald Trump and answered some of the questions for himself -- his bagel of choice was a "Big Mac with a hole in it" -- and mused if he should just take on the mayoral duties himself.
