1925: Hunters returning from Kaibab forest late last Thursday night discovered a pitiful tragedy of the desert when they found a Ford truck and crushed beneath it an aged man at the bottom of a canyon about 2 miles this side of Lees Ferry. The man had been dead about 24 hours. He was Waddy Thompson Ligon, 73 years old, of Bisbee, who had been driving to Lees Ferry to visit his daughter, Mrs. Chester Moon, wife of the ferryman there. Finding that the man was dead and not knowing who he was, (the party) left him and came on to Cameron, from there phoning the sheriff’s office. Mrs. Moon had been expecting her father but did not know when he would arrive. For nearly 36 hours his mangled body laid only 2 miles away from her home.
