UTEP's formula for men's basketball success will always be the same under coach Joe Golding.

The Miners' fifth-year coach wants his team to play tough, grinding defense, make the small, winning plays and generally get the jerseys dirtier than the other team.

It's those qualities that made Golding the perfect fit for UTEP — a historic basketball program that always relied on toughness to compete against seemingly superior opponents to win big games, conference titles and even a national championship in 1966.
