For several weeks, much of the focus on the upcoming Red Sox offseason has been centered on Alex Bregman and the near-certain probability that he will opt-out of the final two years of his contract.

But Bregman isn’t the only veteran in the Boston infield facing such a decision. Shortstop Trevor Story, who rebounded from three injury-plagued seasons to enjoy his best year in a Red Sox uniform, faces a similar call.

Story, who will turn 33 next month, has two years remaining on the six-year deal he signed in March of 2022. He’s scheduled to be paid $25 million in both 2026 and 2027. He also has a $5 million buyout on an option year for 2028.
