In her Nov. 1 letter, Gail Householder speculates that if either President Barack Obama or Joe Biden had torn down the East Wing of the White House to build a massive ballroom, the “lamestream media” would be falling over themselves to praise the destruction and construction (“ Criticism of White House renovation is hypocritical “). Well, we’ll never know if that’s true since neither of those presidents chose to do that, probably because they respected the history of the White House and didn’t have the emotional need to build a gilded overwrought monument to themselves (my speculation).
