AUBURN, Ala. (WHNT) — The Auburn Tigers are pulling the plug on the Hugh Freeze era.
According to On3's Peter Nakos, Auburn has fired Freeze nine games into his third season.
Freeze had fantastic results in recruiting players to Auburn, but on the field was plagued by an inept offense, ultimately failing to yield results of those recruiting efforts.
The 10-3 loss to Kentucky was the straw that broke the camel's back. The Tigers only mustered a field goal against a team that was allowing an average of 35 points per game.
Freeze started play SEC play each year of his Auburn tenure, 0-4. The Tigers had only accomplished that feat four times in program history.
Freeze’s tenure was also tainted by the Tigers' ability to get into close games but fail to close out wins.
