A MAN will spend at least another year behind bars after he was sentenced for the daylight robbery of a local post office in the town's main street.

Jason James Clarke was handed a three-year sentence for robbing the Quirindi Australia Post outlet in George Street while armed with a metal rod in late-2024.

The now 50-year-old admitted to one charge of robbery while armed with an offensive implement after robbing the female staffer of more than $1000 in cash on November 14, last year.

The case was moved from Tamworth District Court to Sydney's Downing Centre where Judge Jennie Girdham jailed Clarke for a head sentence of three years.

After sentencing submissions, Judge Girdham found special circumstances in the case and gave Clarke a 25 per cent discount for his plea.
