AUBURN, Ala. ( WAFF ) - Auburn has fired head coach Hugh Freeze during his third season, per multiple news outlet reports.
Defensive Coordinator DJ Durkin will reportedly serve in an interim role until a new head coach is appointed.
The move follows Auburn’s 10-3 loss to Kentucky. The Tigers drop to 4-5 and 1-5 in SEC play. Auburn sits in the bottom three of the conference.
Through his three seasons at the helm of the program, Freeze has an overall record of 15-19 and 6-16 in conference play.
4 out of 5 of Auburn’s conference losses have been decided by one score, including the loss to Kentucky.
Freeze had two quarterbacks compete for the starting position ahead of the Kentucky game. Ashton Daniels won the job, but Jackson Arnold also took the field against Kentucky.
