AUBURN, Ala. (WIAT) -- Auburn fired head football coach Hugh Freeze, according to Auburn Athletic Director John Cohen on Sunday.

Freeze went 15-19 overall and 6-16 in SEC play during his tenure at Auburn, which started when he was hired as its head coach in November 2022. Though fans welcomed Freeze when he entered the Plains, he failed to meet expectations.

The Tigers won six games--including three in the SEC--in 2023 and lost to Maryland in the Music City Bowl. The program took a step backwards in 2024 when it won two conference games and did not achieve bowl eligibility.

The 2025 season started strong for Auburn, as it won its first three games and rose to No. 22 in the AP college football poll. Freeze, however, could not beat ranked SEC opponents. The Tigers lost to ranked Oklahoma,
