A luxury 60-day cruise around Australia has been cancelled following the death of an elderly woman who was left behind on a remote island.
Suzanne Rees was left behind on Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef after she broke off while hiking with a group of fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer cruise ship.
The ship departed without her, before returning a few hours later once the crew realised she was missing.
The Sydney woman’s body was not found until after a major search operation the following day.
Coral Expeditions chief executive Mark Fifield confirmed on Saturday that passengers and crew had been notified the cruise had been cancelled.
