MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -A monkey sighting was reported in Clarke County earlier this afternoon.
This was said to have been related to the escaped monkeys that resulted from a truck turnover in Jasper County earlier this week.
Clarke County deputies, Mississippi Game and Fish and an animal control unit responded to the area of Highway 513 just a mile west of the I-59 ramp.
News 11 has yet to confirm the sighting, but Sheriff Anthony Chancellor spoke with us on scene and told us how one should proceed in the event of a monkey encounter.
“Don’t try to approach it, don’t try to catch it, or anything like that,” Chancellor said. “Please don’t shoot the monkey or anything of that nature. But I would say this: if possible, if it is a safe area for an individual to pull over, if they could cal
