HENRY COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- Indiana State Police are investigating after a police officer was airlifted to the hospital in an early morning crash near Cadiz, Indiana.

Just before 7 a.m., a police officer with the Cadiz Police Department pulled over to the side of the road at the intersection of State Road 38 and Mechanicsburg Road. He was standing outside his police vehicle when someone driving a Toyota RAV 4 collided with the back of the car.

The officer was airlifted to a hospital for serious injuries. The driver of the RAV 4 was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer is currently in stable condition.

SR 38 was closed for four hours to allow police to investigate the crash and to clear debris from the roadway.
