(NewsNation) — Natalie Grabow, an 80-year-old grandmother, made history in October when she became the oldest woman to complete the Ironman World Championship.
Grabow completed the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, on Oct. 11, in just over 16 hours and 45 minutes, breaking the previous record set by 2025 Ironman Hall of Fame inductee Cherie Gruenfeld at 78 years old, according to the Ironman World Championship website.
Grabow is also the first woman to compete in the World Championship's 80-plus age group.
An Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a 26.2-mile run, in that order. Grabow told NewsNation that she prepared for the race by training "between 16 and 18 hours a week," sometimes working out two times a day.
