(FOX40.COM) — The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is investigating an attempted homicide after an incarcerated person allegedly attacked two peace officers at California State Prison, Sacramento, on Saturday evening.

Around 7 p.m., incarcerated person Jason Brannigan, 48, allegedly attacked two officers with an improvised weapon as he was being escorted from his cell for staff to conduct a cell search. Officials said physical force and chemical agents were used to end the attack.

The two officers were immediately taken to triage and a treatment area until they were transported to an outside medical facility. Both officers are expected to recover.
