YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- It's almost time for the season of giving, and on Sunday, one local organization gave back to those who served as the holidays approach.
Many were lined outside the Cornersburg Plaza on Sunday, all waiting to walk through Sparkle's doors.
"We're giving away 100 gift cards to veterans," said Commander Terry Mackey. "They're $50 a piece. They can use those in the grocery store and they can get their supplies for their families for Christmas and/or Thanksgiving dinner, whichever they'd like."
The giveaway was put together by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2. This is a way to help veteran families who are hurting.
"Financial situations going on with the government not paying and the shutdown, so we're trying to help out the best we can," Mackey said.
