MEMPHIS, Tenn. - This week The Church of God in Christ kicks off its Holy Convocation for the last time in Memphis. It’s moving to St. Louis for at least the next three years.
It’s an event that brings between 30 to 35 thousand people from all over the world to the city.
The Church of God in Christ 117th Holy Convocation begins this week, bringing 30 thousand people to Memphis and 35-plus million dollars in economic impact with them.
It’ll be the 107th time the Convocation has taken place in Memphis.
Ten others have happened in St. Louis, the city it’s headed back to.
Bishop Brandon Porter, who is one of COGIC’s general board members said while COGIC congregants love Memphis, the decision to move the convocation was solely up to the National Church’s general assembly.
