HANNIBAL (WGEM) - With SNAP benefits running dry, recipients in the Tri-States are already feeling the effects.

For residents on SNAP benefits, the current federal government situation has posed a major challenge to their daily lives.

“When I asked them, they said as long as the government is shut down, there’s no food stamps,” Mary Lyman, a SNAP recipient, said.

Lyman is on disability and gets around $1,400 a month. However, she has other costs that require her to pay a large portion of that money.

“Out of that, I have to pay rent, I have to pay my phone bill, I have other bills I have to pay out of that check also,” she explained.
