WALLINGFORD, Conn. — A Bridgeport woman was arrested on Oct. 22 after Wallingford police said a man lost nearly $300,000 in a Publishers Clearing House (PCH) scam in March.
Nyiesha Upchurch, of Bridgeport, is facing charges of larceny in the first degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the first degree, telephone fraud in the first degree and conspiracy to commit telephone fraud.
Police said they received a report about the scam on March 4. Investigators learned that the 72-year-old victim received multiple phone calls from unknown people, telling him that he won $9.6 million in prize money.
The victim was told that he needed to pay prize money taxes in order to collect his prize, police said. The victim's family found seven checks written to unknown individuals, with five of those c
