QUEBEC — Bolstered by squabbling and infighting by his two leading opponents, Quebec City mayoralty candidate Bruno Marchand was swept back into office for a second term on Sunday.
And unlike the high drama of the 2021 election campaign when he was elected by surprise when the vote flipped at the last minute, this time Marchand’s win was clear and decisive.
With only partial results available, it was clear Marchand would be an unstoppable force. At 8:34 p.m., with Marchand sitting on a comfortable 54 per cent of the vote, way ahead of his nearest opponent, Radio-Canada and TVA declared him the winner.
