India has been able to clinch the Maiden Women’s World Cup title with a 52 run win over South Africa. After being sent in to bat first, India was able to raise the bar with a score of 298/7, and despite a valiant century from South Africa’s captain, Laura Wolvaardt, South Africa were bowled out for 246.

After being sent in to bat, India posted 298/7, led by strong contributions from Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, and Deepti Sharma, who added a quickfire half-century.

Chasing 299, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt fought valiantly with a brilliant century, but found little support at the other end. Inspired bowling from Shafali Verma and a match-winning five-wicket haul by Deepti Sharma crushed South Africa’s hopes, dismissing them for 246.
