FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KVRR) — Otter Tail Power Company has filed a request with Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to increase electric rates for its Minnesota customers.
They are asking for a nearly 18% increase which would be reflected in bills the second or third quarter of 2027 if it’s approved.
In the meantime, they are asking for an interim 12.6% increase while the PUC completes its review which can take 18 to 24 months.
Starting January 1, Otter Tail Power customers in Minnesota will see their bills increase on average over $13 a month.
Otter Tail Power President Tim Rogelstad says the request is not being driven by data centers, but rather the real costs of maintaining and strengthening the electric system.
