The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash prize of Rs 51 crore for the Indian women's cricket team following their historic victory in the ICC Women's World Cup against South Africa. This win marks India's first world title in both ODI and T20I formats. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia expressed pride in the team's achievement, stating, "Harmanpreet Kaur and her team have not just won the trophy today, they have won the hearts of all Indians. They have paved the way for the next generation of women cricketers."

The final match saw India triumph over South Africa by 52 runs. India set a target of 299 runs, with Shafali Verma shining with a remarkable 87 runs and taking two crucial wickets. Deepti Sharma also played a significant role, scoring 58 runs and taking five wickets, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve this feat in a World Cup final.

Saikia highlighted the recent increase in women's prize money by the ICC, which has risen from $2.88 million to $14 million, a 300 percent increase. He noted that these changes have greatly promoted women's cricket. The BCCI's reward includes players, coaches, selectors, and support staff, reflecting the board's commitment to supporting women's cricket in India.

This victory not only ends the heartbreak of previous World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017 but also signifies a new era for women's cricket in India, following the footsteps of the men's team, which won the World Cup in 1983. The total prize pool for the Women's World Cup this year was Rs 116 crore, nearly three times higher than the previous tournament, showcasing the growing recognition and support for women's cricket globally.
