A devastating road accident in Ranga Reddy district claimed at least 17 lives on Sunday near Mirzaguda in Chevella mandal.

The tragedy occurred when an RTC bus from the Tandur depot collided head-on with a lorry loaded with gravel.

The impact was so powerful that the gravel load toppled onto the bus, crushing and trapping several passengers inside.

Rescue teams rushed to the spot, deploying three JCB machines to pull out those caught under the debris.

Officials fear the death toll could rise as several passengers remain critically injured.

According to police, the RTC bus was heading from Tandur to Hyderabad with around 70 passengers — most of them students and employees returning to the city after the weekend.
