WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Wichita Rowing Association hosted its 34th Annual Frostbite Regatta on Sunday morning.

The regatta is a one and a half mile “head” style rowing race that took place on the Little Arkansas River. Crews started one after another and raced against the clock.

They expected rowing clubs from eight different states to attend and put over 250 boats in the water.

Despite the name, it was warm enough to be out on the water for the Frostbite Regatta. Andrew Hauser, the Chief Official, said that in some years, the rowers haven’t been so lucky.

“It has snowed at this event,” Hauser said. “I guess that’s why they call it Wichita Frostbite Regatta. This time of year, you never quite know.”
