DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - Each stitch of the Quilts of Valor at the Carnegie Stout Public Library made its way through the personal touch of the Breezy Ridge Quilters.
The work comes easily to the 20 volunteers, and the reason they do it is as personal as the quilts themselves.
“I had ten uncles that were in World War 2 as well as my dad,” said Rose Whisler, who has been sewing for over 25 years. For her, it’s a break from all the troubles in the world.
“I listen to classical music or book on tape,” Whisler said.
But when the quilt starts taking shape, it’s all about the veterans being honored.
“When it starts taking shape is when you start thinking this is going to be something special for this veteran, yes,” Whisler said.
