BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Volunteers packed and served Hot plates of authentic Jamaican food with a purpose.
It’s all part of a fundraising effort that will raise money to buy essential supplies and food for Jamaican families, specifically in Rural Jamaica.
Tasheka Rowe-Crouse helped bring the fundraiser to the church. She grew up in Jamaica and said it’s personal to her.
“People have lost everything that they have. People that already had so little,” she said.
“It means a lot to me; it makes me feel seen. I think a lot of people here can relate because of Hurricane Katrina, so they know what it’s like to lose the things that you need and not necessarily have the government aid immediately,” Rowe-Crouse said.
The relief effort comes after Hurricane Melissa made landfall on October 28th a
