Jessica Woodrow doesn’t care why the duck was crossing the road.
All she knows is that she swerved to miss it — and wound up swimming for her life in an ice-filled slough.
Driving on Monday morning to Border Central School in Calvin, N.D., where she is a freshman, the 15-year-old tried to avoid running over the bird. She lost control of her car on the gravel road, and it rolled off the road.
The next thing she remembered was being upside-down. And mostly underwater.
