WXIN/WTTV -- The watchdogs at Scamicide are sending out a warning about a new email phishing scam aimed at PayPal users.
The scam, which is active right now, uses a combination of old tricks and new tactics to lure potential victims into giving up enough information to allow the scammer to access their account.
According to Scamicide, the first thing to notice is that the sender’s email address actually looks like it’s from PayPal; “service@paypal.com.” That’s because the crooks are using special software programs to spoof their email address to make it look like you just got an email from the PayPal service department. This is similar to how scammers are able to “spoof” their phone numbers to make it look like they’re calling from a local phone number.
The subject line of the email say
