COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person is dead after a crash involving an SUV and a semitruck in north Columbus Monday morning, according to a Columbus public safety dispatcher.
The crash happened on Interstate 71 near Polaris Parkway just before 4:30 a.m.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, the driver of a BMW SUV was heading south on the ramp from I-71 South to Gemini Place when the SUV ran off the right side of the road.
The SUV traveled on the gravel shoulder and struck the back of a semitruck with its trailer parked on the shoulder. Police said the SUV caught fire.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at 4:44 a.m. No other injuries were reported.
The ramp to Gemini Place to Polaris Parkway from I-71 South was close
