US President Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, labelling him a ‘communist’ just a day before the New York City mayoral election.

In an interview on CBS's 60 Minutes, Trump disputed Mamdani 's self-proclaimed socialist identity, saying, “Communist, not a socialist, he's far worse than a socialist.”

The criticism came when interviewer Norah O'Donnell asked Trump about Mamdani's mayoral candidacy and his socialist identity.

“Zohran Mamdani, 34-year-old democratic socialist. He's the frontrunner,” Norah O'Donnell said. Trump interjected, correcting O'Donnell, and emphasised “Communist, not socialist. Communist. He's far worse than a socialist.”
