Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) looks to throw against the Denver Broncos in the first half at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver on Oct. 26, 2025.

The Dallas Cowboys entered NFL Week 9 on the outside looking in of the NFC playoff race. Can they get back to .500 ahead of their Week 10 bye?

The Cowboys (3-4-1) will have to beat the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) in order to make that happen.

Dallas has been one of the NFL's best offenses through eight weeks. The Cowboys have averaged the second-most points league-wide behind only the Indianapolis Colts while Dak Prescott has largely played at an elite level.

However, Prescott and the Cowboys are coming off a game during which they predictably struggled against a Denver Broncos defense that generates a lot of pressure. The unit should have a better matchup against a Cardinals defense that entered Week 8 ranking just 22nd this season in pressure rate (32.1%).

The bigger issue for the Cowboys will be finding a way to stop the Cardinals' offense. Arizona hasn't been particularly explosive this season, but Dallas' defense has been one of the worst stop units in the league. The Cowboys rank last in the NFL in defensive EPA per play and have allowed a whopping 31.3 points per game, second-most behind only the Cincinnati Bengals entering Week 8.

Kyler Murray is also set to return from an injury following Arizona's bye, so he may be able to take advantage of an easy matchup and help the Cardinals snap their five-game losing streak.
