In a decision that has sparked widespread concern and criticism, the Government of Manipur has announced that it will stop providing food and essential relief materials to thousands of Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs, affected by the ongoing ethnic violence in the state.

Instead, the government will provide Rs 84 per person per day as monetary assistance through a Direct Benefit Transfer or DBT, system, a move officials say will ensure transparency, efficiency, and flexibility in relief delivery.
