ST PAUL, Minn. — Leading up to the Nov. 4 elections, you've probably heard a lot of talk about political candidates.
Dan Myers, an associate professor of political science at the University of Minnesota, makes sense of all that talk. Political rhetoric includes everything from campaign ads to social media.
Myers said that historically, "Minnesota nice" has characterized politics within the state.
"A reserve [and] a little bit more of a restraint," he described.
That tone captures the mayor's race in St. Paul , he said. Incumbent Melvin Carter III faces four challengers to his seat: Yan Chen, Adam Dullinger, Kaohly Her and Mike Hilborn.
Myers went on to say the mayor's race in Minneapolis has taken a different approach.
