A woman was seriously hurt Sunday night when she was hit by a vehicle in Worcester, Massachusetts, police in the city said.

The victim, a 31-year-old Worcester resident, is in critical condition with a head injury, according to the Worcester Police Department.

Officers said the crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday, when the victim and another male were walking in a travel lane, according to a preliminary investigation.

The driver who was involved remained on scene.

An investigation is ongoing. Additional information was not immediately available. Worcester police did not provide a specific location of the incident.
