The Supreme Court on Monday took a strong exception to a plea filed by a petitioner, G. Sarvam Kumar, to be appointed as a judge of the Telangana High Court.
A bench led by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai rebuked the petitioner and remarked that he’s made a mockery of the system by filing such a plea.
“Do you want to hold a collegium meeting now… You are making a mockery of the system”, CJI Gavai said.
The Court further warned the petitioner that it would impose costs on his plea.
“When have we heard petitions regarding the appointment of a High Court judge. How much cost should we impose?”, the CJI said.
In response to the apex court’s displeasure, the petitioner apologised and sought to withdraw his plea.
