The Supreme Court on Monday sternly refused to entertain a petition seeking the petitioner’s own appointment as a High Court judge, calling it a “mockery of the system.”
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran took up the matter for the first time and expressed disbelief over the nature of the plea.
“Do you want us to call the first three judges of this court here and hold a collegium meeting now? You are making a mockery of the system!” CJI Gavai told the petitioner.
The Bench also observed that such a petition had no precedent. “When have we heard petitions regarding the appointment of a High Court judge? How much cost should we impose?” the CJI asked pointedly.
