STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Wagner College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams open their seasons tonight -- men at Virginia Commonwealth, women at Rutgers -- both with back stories.

The Wagner men’s program last week named assistant coach Dwan McMillan as interim head coach, stepping in for Donald Copeland.

Copeland, still listed as the head coach, is reportedly suspended and is under investigation by the school for repeated mistreatment of his players. Athletic director Walt Hameline confirmed that to CBS Sports, but failed to return the Advance’s phone calls on the matter.
