ALEXANDRIA, Ky. (WXIX) - The AA Highway will be shut down for “several hours” in both directions at Kentucky 709 due to a fatal crash, according to Alexandria police and state road officials.

“The closure will be in place for several hours while police investigate the crash. Motorists are advised to find an alternate route, and to avoid the area.”

State transportation officials say they will send out an update once the highway reopens.

The coroner’s office was called to the crash shortly after it was reported in Alexandria about 5:15 a.m.

Alexandria Police Chief Lucas Cooper confirms the crash involved a semi and an SUV.

The semi struck the SUV, killing the only person in the SUV, who was the driver, he said.

The semi driver was not hurt, the chief said.
