People are being urged to check their change for a rare 50 pence piece featuring a beloved Christmas story character, which could fetch up to £300 from collectors. According to one expert, the coin to watch out for depicts Raymond Briggs' Snowman.

Struck in 2008, it's a newer version of a 2003 edition. Speaking on TikTok, an expert known as the Coin Collecting Wizard said: "This 50 pence is worth over £300! Save this!

"This sought-after collectable coin is a new edition of a rare Christmas-themed design first issued in 2003." The reverse side of the coin shows an image of the famous Snowman getting ready to take flight.

Beside him stands James, the tale's main character. The coin can also be identified by the word "Christmas" printed above the figures.
