Former Derby County trio Lee Carsley , Wayne Rooney and Liam Rosenior are in the bookies' odds to become the new manager of Southampton.

Saints, who drew 1-1 with the Rams last month , sacked Will Still at the weekend after a dismal start to the campaign which has left the club in the lower half of the Championship table.

Russell Martin is the favourite to succeed Still after leaving Rangers and that would cap off a remarkable return to St Mary's where he guided the club into the Premier League.

Carsley, the current England under-21s manager, is 10/1 with some bookmakers, while Rooney, currently out of work in management, is priced at 25/1.

That is the same price as Rosenior, who is currently doing an excellent job with Strasbourg in Ligue One.
