LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Food insecurity has been at the forefront of the nation and even in the city of Louisville as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits were officially paused on Nov. 1.

A federal judge on Friday ordered the Trump administration to continue funding SNAP using contingency funds during the government shutdown.

The administration countered, saying it wasn’t allowed to use the contingency funds of about $5 billion for the program, which reversed a USDA plan from before the shutdown that said money would be tapped to keep SNAP running, the Associated Press reported.

While it’s unclear when or if that funding would be restored, it has left many trying to make a way out of no way as we are near the holiday season.
