$13 million construction project will help drainage along Scottsdale/Tempe border

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Drivers and residents near the Tempe-Scottsdale border will see construction for a new major drainage improvement project that begins Monday. It's a project aimed at reducing dangerous flooding in the area.

The $13 million project, led by the cities of Tempe and Scottsdale, will focus on the intersection of Miller Road and Roosevelt Street, an area officials say has repeatedly suffered from flood damage in past storms.

The new Roosevelt Street Storm Drain will extend an existing 78-inch drain that channels water to the Indian Bend Wash, improving stormwater flow and reducing flood risk. That same wash was the site of a recent fatal incident, when a man was swept away by floodwaters inside his car.
