Groveland Township officials have changed their minds on a proposed battery storage system.

At a Sept. 3 special meeting, the township trustees voted 3-2 to enter into a lease agreement with Dallas based-Vesper Energy to build a Battery Energy Storage System or BESS on township property.

The project was proposed on a 37-acre parcel located on Grange Hall Road between Worden Road and Dixie Highway.

Township Supervisor Kevin Scramlin and Trustees Keith Weiderhold and Jim Christopher supported the agreement. Treasurer Theresa Bills and Clerk Jenell Keller voted no.

The board changed its position at an Oct. 13 meeting and voted 4-0 to rescind the prior vote from the Sept. 3 meeting to extend a 40-year property lease agreement.
