It’s Day 5 — and the fourth day of evidence —– in a civil trial in Newport News stemming from the Richneck Elementary School shooting.
Attorneys for Abby Zwerner, the former schoolteacher who was shot by a 6-year-old student during a first-grade reading class in January 2023, have rested their case.
Monday, attorneys for Ebony J. Parker, the former Richneck assistant principal, will make their case, with expert witnesses expected.
Zwerner and her lawyers are accusing Parker of “gross negligence” on the day of the shooting. They asser that the former administrator ignored several warnings the boy had a gun in school that day.
On Thursday, Zwerner testified about being shot, including events leading up to the shooting and her life afterwards. Read about her testimony here.
