ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - The YWCA Quad Cities hosted a community canned-food drive Saturday afternoon, offering participants access to the YWCA Aquatic Center.

People who brought two non-perishable food items or more received free admission to the YWCA’s indoor aquatic center.

The donations went towards the YWCA Quad Cities’ Empowerment Center which organizers said helps women and families achieve stability and independence.

The organization said over the past few months, the number of families served at the center has quadrupled.

With the potential suspension of SNAP benefits, more families will likely turn to the YWCA for help, the organization said.

Organizers said that events like this allow the community to come together and make a tangible difference.
